A Few Words Leads to Full Ride at U. of Chicago for ’07 Hammie Winner
When George Cox had an initial conversation with Tiffany Taylor (HA '07), he asked her about her college plans. She indicated she was looking at a few schools near where her mother lived in Georgia or her father in Mississippi. George asked, “Have you ever considered something beyond the Mason-Dixon Line?” Tiffany said, “Oh, no!” and indicated she wanted to be near her home. However, on second thought Tiffany decided to look elsewhere. “After I talked with Mr. Cox, I thought, ‘well, there really isn't any reason I shouldn't look around.” And so she did.
After reading about the University of Chicago, Tiffany decided that it was the school for her. She not only was accepted, but received a full-tuition scholarship to attend! Said Cox, “It's not a question of where a student goes, it's a question of whether or not the student has looked far and hard enough. I had no idea my few words had such an impact until she thanked me at this year's Seattle Leaders Academy week.” Sometimes it only takes a few well placed words to make a difference.
