Hamilton Friends Volunteers Launch 2009 Application On Super Saturday
The 2009 Alexander Hamilton Citizenship Achievement Award or, “The Hamilton Award” program, is officially underway thanks to a group of dedicated Hamilton Friends volunteers. On the morning of Saturday, January 31st, volunteers gathered at the Hamilton Friends office in Pioneer Square where they stamped, stuffed, and sealed over 2,700 Hamilton Award applications to be mailed to high schools across the nation. You can see more pictures of our volunteers hard at work on our photo gallery page. This year Hamilton Friends had 12 volunteers, more than it has had for any previous Super Saturday. Those present included: Ellen Broweleit, Evan Hatch, Summer de la Cruz, Jacob Becher, Adam French, Kathy Hatch, Pam Boroughs, Brad Boroughs, Lindsey Robison, Jon Robison, Nicole Aranda and Cathy Hiller. “There is no way we could have done so much work in so little time without their help”, said George Cox, AHFA president. “They worked quickly, efficiently and were a lot of fun to be around. We can’t thank them enough.” The Alexander Hamilton Friends Association sponsors the Hamilton Award. “We seek high school juniors who seem to us a lot like the young Alexander Hamilton”, said Cox. There are several categories of winners, but the top winners are enrolled in an educational program called The Hamilton Leaders Academy. “The Hamilton Leaders Academy will eventually span their college years, but right now the program is two years long,” said Cox. The culmination of the first year program is a week of leadership training in Seattle. At the conclusion of year two, Hammie winners participate in an international service project. To be eligible for the 2009 award, applicants must have junior standing in an accredited K-12 program in the United States and be sponsored by either their school counselor or principal. Students and counselors may also download 2009 Application from the website.
